Dodecahedron
Dodecahedron is built on a twelve-tone row (C# G C B D E A# G# A D# F# F). Its structure emerges from continuous motivic transformation involving this core material. The piece begins with twelve statements of this row, transposed (in order) to the pitches contained within it and sometimes layered over one another.
Meditations
I mainly composed the piece just as a pretty and calm piece, to contrast some earlier works of mine in a cycle of preludes, but I found its name as something to fit its mood later.
The Nihilist
I have always been fascinated with complex rhythms and time signatures, so I decided to compose a piece in 11/8 in my favorite style: heavy metal. It's an absolutely crazy piece with challenging riffs and solos along with a fast tempo.
Unconditional
I love music, which includes singing. I have been singing for a long time, when i realized i also love making my own music. I love writing songs and creating tracks for them as well. I use garage band most of the time to compose tracks of my own and i hand write my lyrics in my song notebook.
Little White Dresses
This is a song for every artist who works hard everyday but still feels like they will never achieve their goals. I am a dedicated jazz saxophonist and was practicing four hours a day until all of my repertoire and college auditions got the better of me.
Life of a Bunny
Through this piece, I hope to evoke a hopping feeling in listeners, reminiscent of a bunny.
California
This song is about discovery while yearning for something unreal. In our modern world of social media, editing, and other tools, we have an idealized view of the way the world is and should be.
Gardens of Grey
This song, Gardens of Grey, is about being stuck somewhere that once was good for you, but now you've outgrown. Sometimes, we have to step outside of where we feel safe to be truly content.
String Quartet
This piece started out of an inspiration from playing in various Beethoven string quartets. I wanted to achieve a bubbly and lively melody that emulated the feel that I had familiarized in Beethoven's music. I also wanted to imitate the unpredictable yet structured way in which Beethoven writes his compositions.
Space
The song is titled "Space," and it features a friend of mine (also a senior at Albany high school) named Emily L. (I sing the verses, and Emily takes over on the choruses). I had a lot of fun editing in Logic (spending many many hours on it), and again, while the music itself isn't too complex, I tried to make up for it a bit with the orchestration/recording quality.
Sliver of Light
Sliver of Light is a piece about hope and resilience. Especially now, many people face hardships. In our increasingly interconnected world, many stories of hardships and overcoming them are shared, inspiring and motivating others to fight their own hardships or help someone who is going through a tough time.
Mare Nubium
This song was inspired by a number of Jazz-Fusion and Progressive Rock artists including Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, ELP, King Crimson, etc.
Turn It Off
So many songs today are about falling in love, or romance, so my friend and I decided to write one entirely about the opposite thing. "Turn it Off" is a fantastic song about restricting one's self from letting in those very emotions.
Telltales Told
When making digital music, I start by finding a melody, chord progression, and selecting key instrumental elements. Next, I add drums, write lyrics, record vocals, and add any other necessary textures or sounds. Then I begin the mixing process.
Haiku for You
The inspiration for the piece came after reflecting on a collection of haikus I had once journaled during a very emotionally turbulent point in my life.
Extraordinary Path
The piece describes change, despair, and epiphany as it moves through its various stages.
