The Nihilist

William Z.

  • I have always been fascinated with complex rhythms and time signatures, so I decided to compose a piece in 11/8 in my favorite style: heavy metal. It's an absolutely crazy piece with challenging riffs and solos along with a fast tempo. I also decided to experiment with dissonances, which are used in the piano's frequent, jarring stacatto chords and solos. I decided to name the piece "The Nihilist" as a Nihilist is someone who believes in nothing and has no objective in life, reflecting the piece's craziness. I composed it originally on Musescore's composition software, and enhanced the audio playback in FL Studio 20.

  • Creativity to me means to have uniqueness in my creations and using new ideas instead of re-using old ones. Popular or overused methods or aspects would not reflect creativity, but fresh, new ones would.
