Is it Enough?

This picture represents most people’s weapon of choice: makeup. Makeup is the semi-invisible shield that creates a level of safety. It is used by some to cover up their insecurities and put on a mask of armor to confront the world. A face. There are many different reasons people wear makeup everyday, for example, insecurities. However, I focused on the way people hide their insecurities using it. I chose the title ”Is It Enough?” because this applies to me and to many others, you can feel like you are just your looks, and I wanted to depict that idea of self reflection and worth in my image. Some young people can try new things, like makeup. I wanted to show that through my work as one of the things that happen when a young person is finding themself. The deeper meaning to my photograph is that sometimes young or older people wearing makeup can feel little and not enough without it.

Greatest Art Piece in Human History

While traveling with my family, I stumbled upon this particular sunflower, which happened to be the one and only sunflower in the area. After photographing it, I brought into Adobe Photoshop to make any needed adjustments. I’m fascinated by photography that focuses on a single subject existing in open spaces, encourage viewers to stop, slow down and enjoy the small things that exist around them.

innocence

My photography class and I went on a field trip to this after school program for kids. There we spent time with them, played with them, and they showed us things that they really enjoyed doing! We gave them different types of cameras to play around and take pictures with. Some of the kids ran up to me and yelled “ take a picture of me!” this was one that I took of a little girl. She was sassy but had such great energy. In the photo she looks more innocent and shy. Photography is a great way to show different emotions and feelings. Sometimes you can't tell if someone is sad until you look at a photo.

Autumn Amber

i took this photo at a car rally I went to with my dad. I tried to capture one of my dad’s friends cars as right in the middle of a valley vineyard in calistoga as the sun was rising. It was a really cool time and place kind of thing because of the orange glow of the sun shining through the trees and vines.

Fever Dream

What started as a daily exercise requirement, hourlong walks, turned into an exercise in observation. I started to take that seemed out of place, like a bright pink Welch's wrapper on the brown ground or a red juice box in the hand of my school's statue. A fever dream is characterized by being bizarre and nostalgic at the same time. When I look through these pictures, the colors are so vivid it feels like I'm waking up.

Late Night Pizza

I came across this scene when I was taking a late-night walk. I noticed a man squatting and smoking on the side of a pizza place. The cold temperature and general vibe of the scene were very slow and calm. I really enjoyed the mood of the scene and I tried to capture it through a camera. I was very lucky to have noticed such an interesting scene on my walk.

Nonchalance

I took this photo during my first and sole visit to New York City, and I was completely awestruck throughout my trip. In Times Square especially I must have looked like a deer in headlights, as the slew of supersized billboards and neon lights was overwhelming to say the least. However, surrounded by the bustling chaos of Broadway Ave, one man stood completely still in a crosswalk, calmly talking on the phone. Though the light was green and pedestrians were crossing, all gave a wide berth so as not to disturb him. It was almost surreal.

Tranquil Traverse

This photo was shot moments before my camera died. We were in the middle of the Quetico wilderness in Canada during a 161 mile canoe trip and I decided to flip the camera upside down for the perfect shot. The water was crystal clear and the reflection was so clear it was like looking in a mirror. No after effects or touch ups were used on this photo, as i feel the raw image exemplifies the moment the best.

Mirror Through a window

The photograph captures a moment from the perspective of someone seated inside a car. The image is framed by the car window, creating a sense of proximity and closeness. The window partially reflects the exterior of the vehicle, with a semi-truck in the center of the mirror.

Motion

This photo was taken the first time I borrowed a camera from school. Of course, there were lots of trials and errors. But the prospect of creating something to be proud of overpowered the frustrations I might have had. The excitement of waiting for the shutter to click and rushing to see the photo with my loyal model, my sister, left me feeling exhilarated. Before this project and this photo shoot, tough times and inner turmoil made me withdrawn from my creativity. But this project and the sense of accomplishment it gave me truly reignited something within me. I am forever appreciative of this episode of experimentation and growth.

The Mist

It is Menlo-Atherton's football senior night and the student section goes wild. Amongst the chaos of celebration, one student takes the time to feel the gravity of what is happening. It is his senior year, and he knows he may never see an event like this again, so he takes it all in, and cherishes it while he can. Those around him do not come to the realization yet, but he does.

Amber Adorned

Description: This image was taken at Ballena Bay, Alameda, during sunset. The image contains a Matson cargo ship with the Bay Bridge and San Francisco behind it. Process: I knew generally what I wanted the image to look like already, all I needed to do was just wait for the right time and lighting. That moment arose when someone walked into frame, completing the image.

Enigmatic Alley

This photo was taken on my iPhone 12 during my trip to Italy. Italy has many beautiful, narrow alleys all around, especially in Rome, where this photo is. You never know what cool, crazy, captivating, or candid moment you'll walk into if you turn the corner of an alley. So, as I was walking with my family back from dinner, I noticed that the setting of this photo was super unique and intricate, having graffiti on the walls, the dim lit light above, and the casual man sitting on his Vespa, all on top of the signature cobblestone streets that expand across Italy. The scene felt so intriguing, so I had to capture the moment with my phone. Even though it isn't with a professional camera, I think taking the photo with an iPhone captured the feeling and gravity of the moment. I titled it "Enigmatic Alley" to encapsulate the randomness of moments that can spur at any moment, which can be weird, funny, or poignant. As an advanced photography student, I am proud of this photo, even though of course it was taken with my beat-up iPhone 12.

Put the Fire Out

Put the Fire Out visually represents the quiet and simplicity within the bustling city of San Francisco. I think many people have given San Francisco a bad association ever since the city lost its true essence. Busy streets on Union Square, now empty. Families and loved ones having picnic at Dolores Park, filling all the spaces, now the grass is visibly clear of people. We have all lost connection and created divided communities when we should be encouraging others to create a better San Francisco. The fire is the hate and constant divide we are all at fault for but, if we work together to build a better, safer community, we can eliminate underline hatred and violence.
