My Body. Not My Body.

Rena K.

  • This piece was inspired by the abortion laws that were ratified in certain states. I found it hard to understand how people could allow for such an invasion of someone else's body and decided to make an artwork to show just how messed up these rulings were. The piece shows a little girl who is pregnant (I like to imagine she was raped) for reasons she could not control but is forced to attend school with the baby due to the abortion laws. The grotesque image of a young girl who is pregnant is not comfortable to the eyes of any viewer. The poor girl must act as if everything is normal with her little backpack traveling to school. As she struggles along, the cold capitol glares down at her, not caring for how she feels or faces.
