Étude op.10 no.12 in C minor “Revolutionary” by Frederick Chopin

Anastasia G.

  • This étude is a musical study piece written to challenge and push the technical boundaries while also conveying deep emotions expression. Through the process of playing the Revolutionary Etude, I refined the technique in my left hand, as this composition is focused solely on difficult passages being played by the left hand, as well as an individual interpretation and expression of Chopin’s work. I found that the revolutionary etude conveys a range of colorful emotions, from urgency and war to determination, with a suspenseful ending of either an unresolved conclusion or victory. For me, it felt like Chopin had left room for his enthusiasts to perceive this music from differing perspectives, and although the piece is immensely technical and consists of fast extended arpeggios in allegro con fuco, it was a shifting experience in my piano studies in which I highlighted Chopin’s inquiet and strong feelings towards the Revolution.

  • Creativity is the process by which life evolves. It is the artist of all arts: music, literature, dance, painting, acting and the human itself. In my wonder land, imagination is the fuel by which I go about creating, thinking, wondering, questioning, loving and living.
