Marimba solo

Joshua H.

  • This recording begins with the sound of me striking the mallets, calling for my dog, DJ—our beloved rescue from a small town near Sacramento—and ends with DJ joyfully ”singing” alongside my excited finish. Music and marimba are gifts I believe I’ve been blessed with—tools for connection, expression, and understanding. In my marimba studio, I work with students who are often labeled as “bad kids”—ADHD border children, misunderstood and judged by the world. Yet, when we play the marimba together, its celestial tones and rhythmic beauty create a sanctuary—a space free of judgment. One piece resonates deeply with this ethos: Odessa by Mathew Lorick. It has endless possibilities—playable at any tempo, with any combination of dynamics, articulation, or sectional order. It embodies the freedom and creativity! To me music is the art of mathematics, sound, movement, and spirit. I am grateful for the chance to share this passion!

  • Everyone’s born with creativity! All it takes is an open mind, respect and a heart to love people just as they are. When you do that, you start seeing, hearing, feeling, and even smelling the world through the lens of creativity. The whole planet turns into a massive, colorful canvas!
