The Prelude from Bach’s Suite in C Minor, BWV 997, is a stunning work that combines harmonies and flowing arpeggios to create a deeply expressive atmosphere. Originally composed for the lute, this piece highlights Bach’s genius for blending technical mastery with emotional depth. In my interpretation, I creatively transposed and performed it on the marimba, giving the work a unique and resonant quality. Adapting this prelude to a keyboard percussion instrument posed challenges in sticking and phrasing, but the marimba’s warm tones brought a fuller, richer sound to the piece. Bach’s music often invites personal interpretation, as its expressive nuances allow musicians to explore their own perspectives. Through an interplay of fast and slow tempos, I aimed to showcase my creativity and interpretations of this piece.

Creativity, to me, is the freedom to personally express my emotions, ideas, and perspectives in a way that feels uniquely my own. Musically, it is the freedom to shape sounds into something meaningful, evoking emotion and sparking a connection between the performer and the listener.
