Zombie by The Cranberries
As Bentley Upper School's music club, we have made a goal of spreading music throughout our community through performance. The Cranberries' Zombie was the first piece that we selected this year, as we truly resonated with the song in parallel to our world and all that occurs today.
Cello Concerto in E minor, Opus 85, Movement 1 by Elgar
The Elgar cello concerto is one of my favorite classical repertories. I preformed this concerto with the Central Oregon Orchestra in February 2023 as my solo debut with an orchestra.
Parents Lie by T. Kitt
This is a song is from the musical Freaky Friday composed by Tom Kitt. The song shows how despite their best efforts, the lies parents tell their children can greatly affect them when they grow up.
I Don't Want to Be You Anymore by B. Eilish
Performing is where I find the most peace; it is when I feel like my true self. My trauma started in elementary school when I began to get bullied. It wasn't just bullying like teasing, it was more physical, I was pushed and dragged often. At one point a group of kids locked me in the school's bathroom and turned off the light. They were holding it from the outside.
Ballade No 1. in G Minor Coda by Chopin
My tiny head bobbed in awe and wonder as my mom’s interpretation of Chopin’s Ballade No. 1 radiated throughout our cozy condo. As I tapped my feet a sense of longing to be able to play the piano so beautifully overcame me, and despite it being far out of reach of my juvenile hands, I leapt into the most difficult sections of the piece.
Cello Suite No. 2, Prelude by Bach
I started playing the cello when I was five, but I found my voice on the cello when I started playing Bach. Bach has always been an important part of any cellist's repertoire, and he was a profound composer.
Prelude in B flat Major BWV 866 by J.S. Bach
In this piece, I try to highlight the Baroque era nature of Bach's composition, where I accentuate the contrasts between its dynamics, tempo, and mood. I enjoyed exploring the bass harmony and terraced dynamics, which were musical elements I had not studied before.
Andante Spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante, Op.22 by Chopin
Fond of the culture of his birthplace, Poland, Chopin strove to evoke its spirit in his compositions, especially through reference to the aristocratic polonaise. I really enjoy this piece because the composition showcases Chopin's exceptional ability to blend lyricism and virtuosity.
Scars to Your Beautiful by A. Cara
With the current rise in social media filters and diet culture, young female teens feel the need to conform to society’s standards. I want to represent teenagers and remind them that beauty comes in all shapes, skin tones, personalities, and smiles.
Cello Suite No. 3, BWV 1009: Sarabande by J. S. Bach
This is a performance of Bach's 3rd Suite, Sarabande.
Steal the Show
During the summer of 2023, the two of us participated in a singing summer camp together. Being roommates, we shared unforgettable experiences, understood each other on deeper levels, and shed tears while telling each other about personal difficulties.
Danza Argentina Op. 2 by A. Ginastera
Danza Argentina Opus 2 is a very unique piece that I choose to play. It is a piece that is not Classical, Baroque, nor modern, and I like it because of how unique it is. The rhythm of the first movement has a fast pace, because it is a dance and has a more modern and minimalist melody.
Variations on a Theme by Corelli in the style of Tartini, F. Kreisler
This piece showcases the virtuosity of a musician and I was honored to be able to perform it for an audience at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Kreisler wrote this piece in the style of his idol Tartini.
Sweeter Than Roses
This song was my first introduction to opera music about 2 years ago. The process of learning this song was difficult, I never fully got it at first. After having more experience with opera i decided to go back to Sweeter Than Roses to see my improvement since than.
Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Minor BMW 1003: Andante by J. S. Bach
Bach’s Andante consists of a flowing melody in apparent conflict with the persistent steady bass quarters, where a third and fourth voice enters from time to time.
Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 Friska by F. Liszt
This is a fun, yet deceptively difficult piece, and a lot of kids might have been introduced to it in a Tom & Jerry Episode. In one of the measures, Tom's pinky stretches out to reach the notes; it's depicted in a comical way, but in reality, it's a difficult task to perform!
Partita in A minor for solo flute, Sarabande and Bourrée Angloise, by J. Sebastian Bach
Sarabande and Bourreé Angloise are the third and fourth movements of the Partita, respectively. This piece is one that is performed by one person and one person only. As such, one person must produce both the melody and the accompaniment.
Till There Was You from the Music Man
I have loved The Music Man since I was 7 years old and was lucky enough to be cast in the play as Amaryllis when I was 8. All the songs of that performance were so fun, but I fell in love with Till There Was You. I listened to every version ever recorded and even found it was recorded by Ray Charles and the Beatles. I'm honored to perform a portion of this song!
