Prelude in B flat Major BWV 866 by J.S. Bach

Daphne G.

  • In this piece, I try to highlight the Baroque era nature of Bach's composition, where I accentuate the contrasts between its dynamics, tempo, and mood. I enjoyed exploring the bass harmony and terraced dynamics, which were musical elements I had not studied before. For me, this piece also holds personal significance because the abrupt changes in style evoke parallels to the emotional ups and downs of life. The uplifting, fast-paced sections remind me of the highs, while the abrupt and jarring phrases echo the lows. Overall, this prelude reflects an interesting metaphor for life, capturing the narrative-like nature of personal experience.
