Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Minor BMW 1003: Andante by J. S. Bach

Isaac K.

  • Bach’s Andante consists of a flowing melody in apparent conflict with the persistent steady bass quarters, where a third and fourth voice enters from time to time. Performing this piece bears the danger of losing the ¾ meter, so I wanted to bring out the varying emotions that Bach felt when composing this piece. As the core, this piece represents a greater relaxation, but in the middle of the piece, tension and conflict holds true as the dissonances pile up.

  • Creativity in music is exploring complex sides of yourself, your surroundings, and history. Shostakovich expands on the terrors felt in the midst of the Soviet Union, Ysaye brought out a world of fantasy, and Bach gives you the freedom to interpret his work in any way. Creativity is music.
