The Takeover

  • The Takeover is a piece created from the view of an outsider looking through modern society. It captures the human craving for evolution and how we constantly attempt to reach through technology. We wish for a superior and perfect way of living, even as it takes over the rest of our lives and confines us to it, ensuring our reliance to it. It creeps its way into society and as people become absorbed in the wonders of technology, it takes over our identity as people that are able to make mistakes and learn from them. Their life no longer belongs to them, but instead belong to the technological world they have trapped themselves in. I wanted to create a piece with a lot of contrast. I used graphite for the girl in the piece, referencing a time in history when we couldn't develop colored films. I wanted to show the simplicity of humanity. For the background, I wanted to show our current situation, of how entangled technology is with us, never being able to separate from it. Thus, I drew the colorful wires you can find in a cable box found in many homes as if they were vines engulfing the girl in the piece. I also wanted to show our future, taking facial features from the girl's face and transforming it into more robotic and mechanical pieces.

  • Expressing my creativity allows me to share my ideas in a thoughtful way. My life is full of uncertainty, but being able to express myself in such an honest way gives me the freedom I need to find who I am as a person. It gives me pride because it's something made with my own hands and ideas.
