The Circular Ruins

My work has been significantly influenced by the works of Jorge Luis Borges. Probably my favorite author, he consistently created thought-provoking short stories, often focusing on a single idea or concept. These are often very abstract, like infinity, labyrinths, illusions, fiction, and so on. My artwork (created in Photoshop) plays heavily into the idea of repetition or cyclicality that features in a few of his stories. The title, "The Circular Ruins," contains a loose allusion to one such story of the same name. I am endlessly fascinated by the way Borges creates a deep meaning out of abstract ideas and I have hoped to "translate" the essence of his writing to a visual image.

It allows me to be more in touch with the literature I read. I am a big reader and creativity through visual art provides a way to latch onto ideas that I discover. Much of my outlook on life has come from a critical thought process that I developed by thinking about such ideas.
