Me, Myself, and I.

Jen B.

  • This Artwork is a self portrait of myself, In it I have drawn 3 versions of myself in my room that I know of more as my safe place to do whatever I want. I drew the three versions to each represent a different aspect in a way that also lets the viewer of my work to think and take their own perspective of things along with it.

Starting with that what was going through my mind when choosing what i wanted to make of my self portrait I knew simply I wanted a lot of self expression and its why I decided to use the corner of my room that i have photos up and my plushies that all have a personal meaning behind them that i will keep to myself, I also knew that I wanted to resolve around the things I do in my room and the main feelings they all represent starting with version 1 of me the only one without their face covered is to represent one of the main things I do and most teenagers do now a days is hide behind a screen more than half of the time of their life not trying to look their best since nobody is going to see them so the viewer can see me without makeup and just being me. Version 2 of me is seen at the right of the portrait hiding behind a book a manga to be exact trying a little more on looks put on some eyeliner but still hiding in another way. version 3 of me can just barely be seen at the bottom of the portrait laying down and again hiding and covering their face that would be me again exhausted and using my room to just rest up and recharge for anything I might do later on.

My process was making sure I had a good reference photo of myself and the placements of where I want the versions of me to be placed and to make sure i can get every detail of my background right and as accurate as possible, once getting it taken I put it into Ibas paint X an application that I have on my phone and started to draw it out using the reference.

  • Creativity to me means finding ways to express yourself in more ways than one, for example being able to find a new way to let out emotions through art or writing is creative along with being able to think outside the box and not feel locked away no matter what is standing in your way.
