  • Created as part of a series investigating mythologies and the ways in which meaning is constructed, the artwork combines the Chinese belief in a red string of fate connecting soulmates and the idea of quantum entanglement. Though the two subjects are separated and potentially in utterly different circumstances, they are still metaphysically connected, and their sum is a valid quantum state.

The piece was designed to function like a poster, and has no "correct" orientation, i.e. either hand may be considered the "top" hand. I measured and sketched the lettering and hands in pencil first, then used red paint marker to fill in the lettering, outlined the hands and stars, and finally shaded the hands and filled in the space around them. All inking was done with a fine point calligraphy pen, making the background the most time-consuming part of the piece.

  • My creativity moves me to consider the relationships between things and always think about the ways that the world around me might be reflected in my artwork.
