Sticky

Mirabai P.

  • Whether it be shying away from spilt food on the floor, to outwardly cringing at other people's messiness, I have always been isolated from touch and disorder. I decided to incorporate my terror of chaos into my work.

Each of my pieces is entitled the fear that they are associated with. 'Dusty', 'Exudation', 'Muddy', 'Sticky', 'Straggly', and lastly, the combined feeling, 'Chaos'. Makes you uncomfortable, doesn't it? That's the point.

I want the facing of fears, the facing of messiness, looking it in the eye. I want that to happen with my art.

Each piece has deliberately imperfect things, that you can only spot if you look close enough. Each piece looks different, has different mediums, but each piece had the same idea in mind while they were being made.

I hope that my work can inspire healing in others, and I hope that while I continue my art, I inspire healing within myself.

  • While a response to negatives in my identity has encompassed my work for a long time, for my portfolio this year I decided to conquer a fear of mine that has grown. I want the purpose of my art to be facing my horrific worst outcomes. Reaching out of my comfort zone is my ultimate goal.
