Realizations

Dominic N.

  • When beginning a new piece I often latch onto a particular feeling that I feel is profound and then try to visualize it the best I can. This process is usually done quickly as emotions are fleeting. In this piece, I exemplified the existential horror of realizing your anatomy exists as a system operating separately from your mind. It's a self-portrait of myself sitting in my art classroom, staring directly at the viewer to show the internal intensity of the moment. A transparent cross-section on the extended arm reveals the internal workings.

  • Having outlets such as painting really cultivates my intellect in a creative way. I see art as an atypical way to problem-solve, it builds my ability to think abstractly and benefits my deeper thinking. These benefits filter into both my academics and everyday life.
