"Photosynthesis" is about beauty, pain, and me just really really wanting to be a plant. Though I had initially sought out to drape the self portrait in soft, dappled sunlight, I inadvertently created something many came to interpret as burn scars. I came to live with this reinterpretation, and draw my own meaning from it. I am not a plant. And however jealous I may be of the simple, beautiful lives of bamboo or ivy or fern, I cannot sustain myself on sunlight. I'm bound to get burned eventually.

Expressing my creativity artistically is a critical emotional outlet for me. It helps me learn things about myself in a more in-depth way, in a way I wouldn't through journaling or other means.
