Opening Worlds

This piece was my sixth piece for my AP Drawing Portfolio. My theme is about my relationship with my older sister, and this piece represents the imaginary worlds we create. This piece is watercolor on white watercolor paper. I began with the hands, adding the door and details after. I ended by adding a hidden "easter egg": the little green flag on the door is the flag of the country my sister and I created in our living room as children.

Making art allows me to be more present in my life by giving me time to de-stress. Exploring my creativity is very calming for me. When I'm working on my art, I am able to take time for myself. I love to just relax and watch as the piece comes together.
