Me And My Cherry Blossom Tree

Deborah D.

  • What do cherry blossoms represent? They often represent the cycle of death and violence, the colorful life of a samurai in Japanese culture. However what they represent the most to me is the act of living. Through the last couple of years I've become my own samurai, slain more than a dozen of my own mental enemies and lived a colorful life of my own. I wasn't sure what to draw for this contest, how do I best express the ups and downs of an experience, my journey through the steepest of hills that never manage to level out into flat ground? How do I express the feeling of closing my eyes and finally finding peace in myself instead, even if only for a moment. My art piece is about a young girl who had a realization in her journey. The cherry blossoms visible in the distance, at this point of her journey to peace, she feels their presence, she recognizes their impact on her. The girl and the cherry blossom tree both know there will be one more hill or maybe 50 more. The girl and the blossom tree can handle it in all its colorfulness.

  • It allows me to see the world in a different light. Everything I see through my eyes is another drawing I can visualize, another inspiration, another reference to improve myself. Not only does it impact the way I see the world, my creativity has pushed me through many of my struggles and rough times.
