Inter-Generational Self Portrait

Devon G.

  • My grandpa immigrated from the Philippines to the US when he was 21 and helped move the rest of his 9 siblings here as well. Due to this, he has built my family up in San Francisco and is the center of it as a result. I wanted to create a piece of work that demonstrates my family's history and origin in the US. I consider it a self-portrait because it contains images of me, my aunts, parents, siblings, cousins, and grandparents. It shows the diversity and impact of identity on immigrant families in America.

  • Photography and art inspire me to express myself in a way that otherwise isn't possible.
