I created a weighted blanket to represent the emotional impact of having close ties to my cultural identity. Weighted blankets provide comfort and security—two feelings I associate with my family. As a Chinese-Filipina, I take to heart both of my communities' traditions and values. The lucky color red pays homage to my Chinese culture, and the lace in this blanket is similar to the material used in a Filipina (a traditional Filipino dress). The blanket is filled with rice, symbolizing the value placed on sharing food and making memories within both cultures.

I love being in my element and having the chance to decompress when I create art. It gives me a chance to open my audience's eyes to issues that my community deals with, as well as what I experience personally. With art and social justice being two of my strongest passions, I enjoy melding the two.
