Bead and Cup

Priyanka S.

  • My process involved throwing a small cup piece, a form that is taller than what I am used to throwing on the wheel (I tend to enjoy plates, bowls, and other wider figures). My experimentation with the shape that is so simple, yet relatively hard for me to accomplish and create is what makes this piece so special to me.

The specific glaze colors that I used were also foreign to me; I wasn't sure how they would turn out or how they would look together. It was a risk that I was willing to take and a risk that I'm very glad I did take.

The outer handle is made out of craft beads and gold wire. The irregular and abstract shape of the handles adds texture that makes the cup more interesting to observe; it's not necessarily a functional piece, it's more of a visual and colorful delight.

  • Exploring my creativity through ceramics has allowed me to experiment with new materials and tools, interact with different forms of inspiration and media, and has forced me to really break the mental limits which I had originally placed on myself, such as what I can or can not create.
