Growing Pains is a poetry collection about coming of age. I wrote this piece earlier this semester to submit to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. I chose the topic of coming of age, because I wanted to explore the emotions of losing your passion or drive. I haven’t read many pieces about this and it’s something I have dealt with, so I wanted to write something to show this emotion and connect with others who may have this shared experience. I experimented with format and word choice to create an original, unique piece that would have an impact on the reader. I hope this piece resonates with others and people can understand that following your dreams is not a linear path.

Creativity means the ability and liberty to speak my mind. It means that I can freely express myself and my ideas without bounds or limitations. It is the ability to by myself and share my ideas with the world.
