Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 - First Movement

Around 16-18 weeks into a pregnancy, a baby hears its first sound. Mine was music. The sounds that I grew up with were my sister’s violin practice and classical CDs in the car, and soon enough, I was able to add to this sonic world when I graduated from my cereal-box “violin” to a tiny violin of my own. Through my performance of this piece, I hoped to bring the masterpiece of a long-dead composer back to life in all its beauty. As I sat with the piece, practiced the difficult fingered octaves, up-bow staccatos, and lyrical phrases, I made the emotions my own as well. I hope my interpretation of the quest to find beauty in pain, sadness, and simultaneous anger translates to your heart and leaves a similarly breathtaking impression as it did for me.

Music is not a conduit for pure technique, but a willingness to look inwards. This is creativity in its purest form, fishnets knotted with worries and cares straight from the heart. Creativity transforms purest instinct into a unique art piece, an interpretation that simultaneously translates unfathomable emotional depth into understanding.
