Soccer, from the stands

Lindsay B.

  • With every photo I take of sports, I try to tell a story by not only capturing the action, but also capturing the emotion of the moment. I took this photo at a NWSL game in June when Angel City hosted Racing Louisville, at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. Angel City, who I was rooting for, had scored an early two goals in the first half; Racing Louisville tied it in the second. The rest of the game was filled with anticipation each time a team attempted to score. Then, with five minutes left in the game, Angel City scored the game-winning goal and the crowd went wild. Each part of this image–from the goalkeeper lying on the ground, to the Angel City players in black running in celebration, to the hands in the air–gives me chills as they remind me of the exhilaration of this special moment.

  • For me, creativity is about finding different and unique ways to capture these special moments filled with exhilaration and emotion. There are many ways I find myself being creative in my photos, whether that’s by choosing certain camera settings, a specific composition, or in the final edits on the image.
