Red Gold

  • My submission is part of a short story I wrote called “Red Gold”. The story, inspired by horror movies and SCP archives, follows explorers investigating a mysterious forest called Rubra, filled with bright red Whisper trees and blue spruce, investigating a disappearance. As the story goes on, the explorers realize that the forest is alive and dangerous. In the excerpt, the main character discovers this in his last moments when a blue spruce drains his blood and turns into a red Whisper. “Red Gold” reflects the loss of individual identity in our society. The protagonist’s fate—becoming part of the forest and one of its many voices—represents how people can get lost in the larger forces of society, losing who they are and becoming just another part of something bigger and impersonal. Hopefully you all enjoyed reading this!

  • Creativity is one of the many puzzle pieces that completes who I am, and who we all are. A person might appear whole without it, but like a puzzle missing its final piece, there is still something incomplete.
