Tell Me A Story/Like The Deer

”Tell Me A Story” is a letter to my grandmas. This poem is about love languages, specifically the differences in the way they show their love to the people around them due to the way they grew up. It includes my memories of staying with both of them over the summers of my childhood. In ”Like The Deer,” I wanted to include the repetition of a word or idea from the first line of each stanza in the last line, but in a slightly different context. The poem is about a parent’s care and worry for their child’s safety, wanting to protect them without becoming stifling.

Creativity means expressing myself, my emotions, and who I am. Creativity is playing with punctuation and capitalization and misspellings, unexpected word choice and repetition. Creativity is expressing the mundane in beautiful and disturbing ways. Creativity is my outlet for all that is hidden inside me.
