I have always loved orchids and through this piece I realized just how much I love their vibrant colors and eccentric shapes. I love how the flowers are so delicate in their beauty and yet so commanding in their presence. The orchid is drawn so the viewer can see the stages that I witnessed the moth orchid go through while it was in my care. One can see a baby bud in its first stages, a large bud, and three blooming flowers. This piece was a real labor of love as it took me several months of prep and planning to finally call my artwork “finished”. This botanical illustration was made using watercolors on watercolor paper, and it is drawn to scale.

Creativity means being able to express my emotions through something other than words. Painting botanical art is a way for me to meditate and process my thoughts and feelings. There are no rules or boundaries to creativity and the possibilities are limitless.
