Bears are often misunderstood creatures. Popular depictions evoke aggressiveness, danger, and gluttony. But in many ways, they are very much human. On a visit to Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska, I noticed that everyone else was trying to get glimpses of the large, scary bears hunting for fish. However, it was this small youngling that caught my eye. He paced back and forth along the riverbank, afraid to get his fur wet. When he finally plucked up the courage to venture onto a rock, he still made sure to check if his paws had stayed dry. To me, this moment of calm, cautious bravery represents what it’s like to live on this planet, across all species.

Creativity, to me, is what makes us human. Every photograph I take tells a story of its own, and makes me appreciate the world a little more. Creativity plays a role in every aspect of my life, and I hope to continue exploring the world through my camera.
