Nocturne (Interlude) by Laufey

For a long time, I struggled to connect with classical music and even questioned my passion for piano. It felt like I was playing out of obligation rather than passion. That all changed when I discovered contemporary pieces like Laufey’s Nocturne (Interlude) (2023). This song opened my eyes and my heart to how piano can be deeply emotional and a modern medium. Its melody and storytelling express the pain and confusion of new love in a way that words might not be able to, giving me a renewed appreciation for piano. Playing this piece reignited my love for the instrument because it felt personal—it spoke to emotions I could relate to and gave me space to express myself authentically. Through this performance, I wanted to share how music transformed from something I simply practiced into something I genuinely loved, reconnecting me to the joy of piano.

Creativity has always been a guiding force in my life, especially through piano and school. It challenges me to think differently, express myself--whether through music, fashion, or science-- and explore new possibilities. It shapes how I approach problem-solving, art, and self-discovery.
