This piece is a reinterpretation of “Our Lady of Guadalupe,” focusing on the interplay between spirituality and human emotion. I wanted to capture a moment of vulnerability, showing the Virgin Mary in a state of quiet sorrow. The tears on her face represent the weight of suffering, while her prayerful hands convey widely recognized devotion. I wanted to depict her divinity contrasting with her emotional expression to reflect the duality of strength and fragility. I focused on creating depth through several layers of ink wash and maintaining heavy contrasts, using the folds in her robe to emphasize movement. Working on a larger scale allowed me to include more intricate details through a monochromatic lens. This piece again explores how faith and grief can coexist, bringing forth a subtle reflection towards the complexity of human experiences within a spiritual framework.

To me, creativity is a horse galloping through the fields, unburdened by norms and constraints. It’s the ability to see possibilities where others see limitations. It’s about embracing the unknown, taking risks, and allowing your mind to wander freely. It’s about challenging the status quo and daring to be different.
