Love Dreams

Once I was able to play “Love Dream” by Franz Liszt properly with the correct fingerings, I was left to wonder about how I should interpret the piece. Should I dedicate the piece to someone that I could potentially have romantic feelings towards or should I dedicate it to the friends and family that I already love so much? As I played each runthrough with different people in mind, I quickly realized that I sounded horrible. Whenever I thought of someone that I could potentially devote my playing through, the melody devolved into a cacophony of noise and incorrect notes. How could I dedicate the piece to friends and family when the composer himself didn’t intend to compose it with that message in mind? Eventually, I realized what kind of piece I would play: a piece about a dream of finding a love, rather than a love that already exists.

While many may think that having creativity is to create something completely new to benefit others, to me, creativity is what you use to take a multitude of ideas and put them together to create something that will ultimately benefit yourself.
