Little Runaway

Vienna L.

  • I started writing this song in May 2024, thinking about how trapped I felt in my social circles and in school. It is a message to myself and others that sometimes you need to leave where you are and start fresh to be happy, even if that means leaving some things behind. I wrote it as a way to tell myself that even if I feel trapped now, things will never stay the same. The song went through around five rewrites and revision stages, keeping only a few verses from the original draft. It touches on themes of my own mental health struggles and difficulty ”fitting in,” and is one of my most blatantly personal songs so far. It was my first real music production project using Ableton and a new recording setup, and all instrumental tracks other than those from the MIDI keyboard were recorded on a baritone ukulele.

  • To me, creativity is getting in touch with a side of yourself that isn’t always shown. It is truly wearing your heart on your sleeve, leaving your emotions bare, and letting people see a you that isn’t censored or toned down by societal expectations.
