  • Loss is a tricky concept to grasp when it happens to someone that isn’t us. We don’t feel their grief, their suffering, nor can we fully grasp how impactful it may be on the person who is experiencing it. When it comes to great tragedy, grieving families often struggle the most when their loss is placed behind a camera, broadcasted for millions to see. As someone who enjoys flashy murder mysteries and unnerving documentaries about real-life serial killers, the recent surge of criticism against true crime entertainment changed my perspective on the ethics of creating and consuming content that profits, in a way, off the suffering of innocent families and lives. How callous and cruel must we be to force our way into someone else’s grief to satiate our morbid curiosity? With this piece, I am to critique the shallowness of publicizing and glamorizing such tragedy.

  • Creativity is one’s ability to share their experiences, ideas, and worldview in a unique and insightful way. Art is beautifully unique in its subjectivity, and creativity is how one communicates with the world through their own lens.
