Gender Norms

Emmaline D.

Pencil (4B-8B)

  • This piece is inspired by a recent conversation topic that came up at my dinner table. My family and I discussed the association of short hair with males and long with females. I chose to create “Gender Norms” because I always wondered whether I would be treated differently with more masculine hair. Crossing gender norms and stereotypes is somewhat new to the world and I think it’s time we let them dissolve. This artwork was made using pencil.

  • To me, creativity is about using my pencils to express unique ideas. I value originally, it helps my work stand out. I believe art isn’t just for looking at--its a way to send messages, share deep feelings, communicating what words can’t. creativity to me is about personal expression and connection.
