  • This piece was composed in 1792, though it was not published until after Beethoven’s death. His exigence for writing this piece was to show appreciation to a lawyer and close friend, hence the dedication ”for friend Degenharth.” As this piece was written in the early years of Beethoven’s compositions, it represents a more lighthearted and playful side of Beethoven, as he was still experimenting with the classical form. This piece underscores Beethoven’s talent for writing elegant and melodic music despite his later dramatic and stately symphonies. Therefore, as we were preparing this work, we tried to emphasize the playful and bright tone by making sure to keep notes short, but also exaggerating dynamics.

  • Creativity is about self-expression and exploration. It allows me to find my own unique voice, while creating work that resonates with myself and others. Creativity is a liberating process that is not always simply about creating something new, but seeing and exploring different perspectives that weren’t originally in my peripheral.
