animal / Limbo

My first poem ”animal” depicts a bear cub’s thoughts towards a fish his mother ate. I was inspired by the nuances of jealousy, a spirit-wrapping feeling that is intrinsically human yet so raw. It isn’t solely spiteful envy; I sought to explore a primal affection so deep to the point of craving being someone. My second poem, ”Limbo”, explores the blurring nature of grief. To grieve in a cycle of remembering and forgetting someone—losing their core in the action of mourning. I use flowers as a motif to illustrate a person becoming a dream-like memory rather than a biological mortal.

Creativity, to me, is the abstracts in my brain that are capable of becoming tangible. A star is just a star in the night sky, but a vivid constellation is an idyllic sight. Without an outlet like poetry, my curiosities muddle into a gray. Creativity is innate and necessary.
