Running Out of Time

Ada M.T.

  • In one of my most recent films, I incorporated the nightmare-like elements of a fever dream into a film about humans’ relationship to the natural world. I was inspired by the surreal and fragmented imagery of a fever dream. I wanted to make my film feel uncanny and create a sense of disorientation. I created visual tension by combining techniques and was able to capture the urgency and gravity of the climate crisis in a visually striking and evocative way. By making the main character a 2D animation, distinct from the 3D environment, I created a contrast that emphasized the character’s feeling of detachment and displacement. This contrast reminded viewers of the tangible impact of climate change, and the 2D animated, detached main character underscored humanity’s role in the crisis. I designed the sound and layered audio to create my desired sound. By combining different elements of media, I created a multilayered and immersive narrative that propelled the story forward and conveyed a message about the consequences of climate change and the need for collective action.

  • Creativity means breaking the boundaries of what is considered traditional storytelling. Collaboration can inspire new ways of thinking which is a big part of creativity. I like to be creative by layering and amalgamating media to tell a story that makes an impact.
