Remembrance

Jack W.

Digital

  • This is a digital art piece draw with one pencil brush of two burning candles. It is to commemorate Transgender Day of Remembrance 2023 (November 20) and to mourn all the transgender lives, liberties, and rights lost this year. The word “remembrance” in the upper corner signifies the day and the importance of remembering trans lives lost. The words “visibilty” and “awareness” in the opposite corner are a nod to the other major day and week about trans people; Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31) and Transgender Awareness Week (November 13-19). Although they are important days, they make us more visible; not necessarily accepted or celebrated. We need more than visibility and awareness, we need liberation, rights, and representation. This piece commemorates the lives lost at the hands of intolerance.

  • Exploring and expressing my creativity has always been an outlet for my gender exploration, and art has been a big part of my journey in exploring my queer identity and the ways in which I relate to society and the world.
