Reminiscent

  • This piece represents the longing and process of reminiscing the past and what used to be. The figure in the foreground observes and looks at the sculpture, both of their faces being unclear but there are major contrasts between the two subjects. The sculpture appears to be a woman bathed in light, while the person, a man, stays watching from the shadows rather than stand in the spotlight. This piece focuses on identity and change in character and I aimed to give it a solemn and melancholic mood with the color choices. The sculpture is the man’s past which he cannot go back to, but something he can look back on with pleasure, fondness, and possibly regret. There is acceptance as one looks back on memories both sad or happy that I wanted to display in my art. Thus using contrasting or complimentary colors of yellow and purple helped me create that feeling. The bright and happy yellow painted alongside the various shades of darker purple show the different complex feelings and emotions that is attached to each color. I added bits of oranges, blues, and pinks, to show the smaller details and complexities that are found in these contrasting feelings and colors. In the end, the darker purple seem to overpower the piece, which aids the overall solemn mood, and the character’s regrets and unhappiness.

  • Creativity is being able to express any feelings, memories, and experiences. Most of the time these are my own feelings, but it can be used for so much more and can display others' experiences/feelings as well. Creativity is a powerful tool that helps me connect with the world through art.
