Wood, paper, paint, wood varnish, Posca markers, glue, and a fan pin

  • I've loved and have collected paper folding fans for a long time now and thought it would be fun to try and make one that was not only cool to look at, but also functional. Folding fans are often used to hide one's face, but I thought it would be interesting if one was used as a mask. As for the process, I created a template for each fan stick in Adobe Illustrator and then used a laser cutter to cut all the parts from the wood I sanded and smoothed out. I also marbled the paper with water and paint to give it an interesting texture. I've been drawing the same types of characters for years and thought that adding it to the face of the fan would make it more personal. Iā€™m very happy with how it came out.

  • Creativity means doing what you stay up late thinking about. Sometimes I'll see something so fantastic and I just want to consume it- I just want to make things that I'm happy to say I've made.
