Pastels and pastel paper

• Artist Statement

  This piece was completed in school during the 2023 spring semester and was inspired from a screenshot of a movie. I mainly focused on improving my technique with this assignment. I utilized the softness of the pastels to make the two characters look further apart from each other and to center the main focal point. I also played with my choice of colors mainly for the skin color. In the shadows of the skin, I used blues, greens, purples, and browns. In the highlights of the skin, I used oranges, yellows and reds. I extremely enjoyed experimenting with the range of colors as this taught me how to make the image more interesting.

  To me, creativity means an escape from reality. It gives me that drive that I lack in other parts of life.
