Jinane E.

  • My piece is a criticism of America's preoccupation with race with a special focus on the lack of a MENA status and national representation. I seek to debunk the societal fixation on white normativity as it relates to millions of MENA Americans such as myself, and families like my own.

  • I write because there is a story to tell, one that is missing. To write is to protest, creativity simply manifests itself in the process. There is an element of necessity in all creative work, ranging from symbolism to metaphors. It is like speaking truth into the world.
