Griffes Poem

In this recording, I'm playing excerpts from a flute piece named Griffes Poem. Griffes Poem is a composition written for the flute and orchestra by composer Charles Griffes. I began playing the flute when I was in fourth grade after I was showed a cartoon of Peter and The Wolf. I was inspired by the bird's pretty singing, represented by the flute, to play the flute in my elementary school beginning band. Of course, when I first started playing, it didn't sound anything close to what the bird in the cartoon sounded like. However, I was committed and determined to become a better musician. I practiced more and more, participating in my schools' music programs, taking private lessons, and playing with my youth symphony. Over the years, I began to improve my musical skills, and my private flute teacher thought that I was ready for taking on Griffes Poem. I began practicing several different excerpts of it in April, 2022 for a high school band audition. For me, it is one of the hardest pieces I've learned so far due to its tough rhythms and notes. Although I know I've yet to go to achieve the bird's skills in Peter and The Wolf, I aspire to become a better musician every single day. I hope you enjoy my playing of this great flute piece!

When I started the flute, I would watch the older, more experienced kids play. The passion expressed in their playing was a main factor that inspired me to improve my musical skills. I hope that now, my own innovativeness can also inspire others to explore and expand their creative limits.
