In my multimedia art class, we were instructed to express ourselves through any medium we wished, representing aspects of our lives using a plant. It was a self-portrait in a way, where we wouldn't be explicitly in the photo.
The Japanese maple is a tree that is hard to maintain and grow, and takes a lot of effort to attain and maintain its beauty. In creating this artwork, I learned and received guidance from my friends, just as the Shrine Maiden in the picture would tend to the tree. And surely enough, I was able to create a piece that I was satisfied with. Just like the tree, I wouldn't be where I am today without those that are important to me.

It allows me to relax myself and lose myself in the process, bonding with the friends that teach me different steps and lessons in art. It takes me from the typical work that I find myself in, and helps myself indulge in something new and healthy.
