My artwork is based on ceramic clay bodies, each taking an extremely large amount of time (throughout weeks of school). I find images of possible references online that I sgraffito onto pots, adding depth, and hope that the clay doesn’t dry out. Know that sgraffito is a type of under glazing process that happens before the first firing in the kiln (the clay is semi-dry). Once fired, I touch up on the underglaze and dip the pot into a cone 5 bucket glaze. Then again, this body will be fired in the kiln and ready to display. I overall really enjoy ceramics and appreciate the amount of flexibility my teacher, Mr. B gives our class at Redwood. He encourages to always make our best work and never be copy someone else’s creative originality; always to be inspired.

Expressing creativity helps me orient all “visions” or ideas I’d like to test out into a physical body. I enjoy being able to change positions and perspectives in each piece, each one being different. Art is a way to relax, focus, and calm myself in times of need.
