Unsigned Unsealed Delivered (I'm Yours)

Poinciana H.

  • As an Asian American, I struggled to learn in the classroom about a diversity of Asian and Asian American experiences. I turned to my family, friends, books, and the internet to gain an understanding of Asian American history. My poem highlights a diversity of Asian American experiences that are overshadowed by the Model Minority Myth. The title is inspired by Stevie Wonder's song, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" but here, "unsigned" represents those who are undocumented, "unsealed" represents open wounds and trauma, and "delivered" represents arriving here. Finally, "I'm yours" represents belonging and taking up space with pride.

  • Exploring and expressing my creativity impacts my life because my art and fashion designs capture what is important to me to share with an audience. From there, I can share stories to be an empowering voice for social change and a more beautiful future.
