Trans Man's Hymn

Mar H.

  • I wrote this poem on my 15th birthday, my golden year, a month before I came out to my mother as trans. I was in a massive identity crisis, both gender-wise and spiritually. Trans Man's Hymn was an attempt to gather and make sense of the beauty and complexity that comes with realizing one's queer, spiritual identity, hopefully in a pretty-sounding way. I'm proud to say that I think I've accomplished that.

  • Writing and poetic creativity has saved my life. As a queer, trans, neurodivergent, and disabled person, creativity is community. Processing the world and expressing my beliefs in words that others may resonate with is more impactful to me than anything else.
