Trapped

  • I utilized wood for my surface to express the vines and leaves more, as well as to design the coffin while also expressing isolation to portray the sensation of being confined due to how solid it is. To illustrate movement of the vines and leaves in depth, I utilized colored pencils as my medium.

I layered colored pencils to show emphasis on the hands covered in vines pulling the figure. I also used contrast in color using the colors orange and blue to represent the separation between the figure and the hands helping to pull her into the coffin to display the feeling of being trapped. I varied the lines of the vines to show movement.

Isolation is also another way to express the idea of feeling trapped and alone, so I wanted to see if I could explore that isolation with vines pulling the girl into a coffin, which expresses the idea of staying stuck as she struggles to be free from the vines.

  • It allows me to express my emotions on paper when I could not express them in front of others, helping my discover things that make me feel happy and fulfilled.
