Traces of Virtue

My artwork is called “Traces of virtue”, which portrays a young woman crying. This is a modern art painting with acrylics as it’s medium. I chose to do realism for the piece because I wanted it to give a reflection for people to see themselves in. I painted the woman to show true emotion and pain, and which was then accessorized with white tears dragged down the face. This symbolizes how bad things happen to good people. The woman crying exemplifies the torture our burdens gives us, but the white tears show the goodness and the virtue in the woman. My point was to capture the struggle of not being able to control our fate even from the goodness of our hearts. It was a quick but emotional process that put me in many positions in order to paint everything “right”. Many decisions were made up on the spot, but I think my spontaneous choices added likeness to the painting.

Exploring and expressing my creativity has given me a myriad of opportunities to connect with those around me. I think that art allows people to express a message deeper than can be expressed through words. By observing others' art pieces, I think I have empathized with and understood many artists.
